Kedar Tal, often referred to as Shiva’s lake, is a glacier lake that can be found in the Garhwal area of the Himalayas in India. It is located at an elevation of 4,750 metres (15,600 feet). The snowfall that occurs on Mount Thalay Sagar (6,904 metres), Meru (6,672 metres), and Mt Bhrigupanth (6,772 metres), as well as other nearby peaks, is what feeds the lake. These mountains are also the source of Kedar Ganga, which, according to Hindu legend, is regarded to be Lord Shiva’s gift to Bhagirathi (a source-stream of the Ganges). This walk will have you believing in magic because to its close proximity to some very spectacular peaks and its breathtaking views. The lake itself is a brilliant sapphire blue, and it is both the most refreshing drink of water you will ever discover and a prized possession of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The sacred village of Gangotri, which is said to be the place where the Ganges River first sprang from the earth, serves as the starting point of this hike and adds to the overall appeal of the excursion. During the yatra season, the area comes to life with marketplaces, temples, nightly aartis, and woods full with sadhus offering their services. Set aside a few days towards the end of your journey to visit this area. The months of May, June, September, and October provide the most favourable conditions for hiking the Kedartal trail.
↬ Itinerary
Day 1: From Dehradun to Gangotri drive
Your trip starts in Dehradun and concludes in Gangotri, Uttarakhand, which is also the beginning of the Kedartal trek. You need to be at Gangotri for the debriefing and the round of team introductions by three o’clock in the afternoon. You should go to the Holy Temple, take a stroll in the pine forests, do some shopping at the local market, start a conversation with a Sadhu, go to the subterranean cave, and eat some delicious food. I will be spending the night in a guest home in the neighborhood.
Day 2: From Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak
After a hearty breakfast, hikers leave Gangotri to begin their journey. You accomplish a significant amount of climbing for the day, and the Kedar Ganga is faithfully following you on your left the whole time. As you go up the mountain, the young pine trees gradually give way to a dense stand of birch trees. Following this path will bring you to Bhoj Kharak, the first campground we visit. In the distance, wavering rhododendrons of a deep purple colour can be seen, while birch trees provide much-required shelter. You are enticed from a distance to find out what is in store for you on Day 3 by the breathtakingly jagged appearance of Thalaysagar’s facade. The last challenge of the day is the Spider Wall, a slab of rock sloping at an angle of sixty degrees that has just enough foothold to get you to the other end. At Bhoj Kharak, you are going to spend the night in a tent camp.

Today is a memorable day. You’ll see that a landslide a few years ago swept off a 100-meter piece of the old route, and it’s up to us to discover a new path to traverse the slope so that we may continue our journey. After that, you will discover a secure path that will bring you down to the riverbed of the Kedar Gunga, which you will have to partially across before returning to solid ground on the other side, which now leads you to your next campsite at Kedar Kharak. An absolutely gorgeous campground may be found amid the hills of Drigubanth, Thalaysagar, and Jogin 3 all in close proximity to one another. Herds of blue sheep are often seen in the region of Kedar Kharak.
Day 4: From Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal and back
The last portion of the journey to the beautiful Kedar Tal consists of a climb over three hills that are completely made up of deposited boulders, with the odd gravel road running between them. Cairns of rock towers are strategically placed around the terrain to denote the trail’s course. After reaching the top of the two ridges, you will get a glimpse of the last peak, which will leave you wondering what further wonders are beyond it. After making it to the top of the third mountain, you will see Kedar Tal Lake, which is a frozen emerald below you. The spectacular vistas of Thalaysagar and other peaks make the difficulties you’re going through seem trivial in comparison.
Day 5: Trek from Kedar Kharak to Gangotri
We are now on our way back to safety after completing the difficult portion of the journey. When compared to the total distance covered, the path leading to Gangotri is almost entirely downward in gradient. When you get back to Gangotri, you’ll find a nice, warm bed waiting for you, and you’ll also have the chance to watch the famous aarti ceremony. The next day, get up early and go over to your residence.
Day 6: From Gangotri to Dehradun
Check out till it’s time for tea. If you have a reservation with us, we will send a car to pick you up at Gangotri and bring you back to Dehradun in the evening.
