“Throat of Lord Shiva” is a translation that comes close to describing what Kedarkantha means. It is a mountain that is located 20 km away from the Sankri settlement and has a height of 12,500 feet. After the battle of Kurukshetra, the Pandavas are said to have travelled to Lord Shiva in order to beseech him for his blessings, as the mythology goes. Instead of meeting them, Lord Shiva insisted on disguising himself as a buffalo and avoiding them. Bheem was suspicious of anything that was going on among the herd of buffalos, therefore he did not let the buffalo in disguise to pass. Because of this, the two got into a battle with each other. It is stated that Bheem tore the buffalo apart, and the Pandavas constructed temples on the spots where different sections of the bull’s corpse fell to the ground. It would seem that Kedarkantha was where his throat was found. The Kedarkantha trek is a lovely and exciting way to spend a week away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The trip spans a total distance of 20 km and takes a time of four nights and five days to complete.

To quench his thirst, he removed a strand of hair from his bun and flung it on the ground, which resulted in the formation of this pool of water. The locals also tell a different version of this tale, which states that there was once a time when there were two separate bodies of water, but that they finally merged into a single body of water known as Juda.
